Notice of Election

                                 NOTICE OF THE REGULAR MUNICIPAL ELECTION

                                 TO BE HELD IN THE CITY OF DELTA, COLORADO

                                       ON TUESDAY, THE 2^ND DAY OF APRIL, 2024

PUBLIC NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a Regular Municipal Election will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, in the City of Delta for the purpose of electing three Councilmembers.  A Councilmember from District A, a Councilmember from District B and a Councilmember At-Large.  Voters will also be voting on forming a Charter Commission and electing members thereof to frame a new Charter for the City of Delta.

Petitions for the Charter Commission will be available on December 20, 2023 at 8:00am at the City Clerk’s office located at 360 Main Street, Delta, CO.  A petition must include at least twenty-five signatures of registered electors of the City of Delta.  The petition must be certified by the City Clerk to be listed on the ballot.  Petitions are due no later than 4:30pm on January 19, 2024.  There are nine positions available on the Charter Commission. 

Petitions for the Councilmember seats will be available on January 2, 2024 at 8:00am at the City Clerk’s office located at 360 Main Street, Delta, CO.  A petition must include at least twenty-five signatures of registered electors of the City of Delta and within the District in which the nominee is seeking election.  The petition must be certified by the City Clerk to be listed on the ballot.  Petitions are due no later than 4:30pm on January 22, 2024. 

Persons wishing to run for these positions (Charter Commission and/or City Council) must meet the following criteria:

• be a U. S. citizen;

• must be at least 18 years of age on the date of the election;
• must have resided continuously in the City of Delta for a period of at least twelve consecutive months prior to their election; or if recently annexed, must have resided within the territory annexed for the prescribed twelve consecutive months;
• must be a registered elector of the City of Delta;
• District A and B candidates must reside within the district from must which they seek election;
• At-Large candidates may reside anywhere within the City limits.

The following ballot question will also be on the ballot:

• Shall the establishment and operation of retail marijuana businesses be permitted in the City of Delta, subject to the requirements of Colorado law and other regulations to be adopted by the City?
