SUMMARY

Under direct supervision of the Community Engagement Manager is responsible for officiating events for all levels of competition in youth and adult sports and for providing a positive, neutral, and safe environment for all.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Understand how the game is played and apply the proper principles and techniques used to officiate recreational sporting events.
  • Maintain standards of play at all sporting events.
  • Observe, explain and enforce game rules, award runs/points, impose penalties, determine results, identify infractions, and examine participants/equipment to make sure they are following safety regulations.
  • Ability to handle participants, team managers and/or coaches under difficult game situations.
  • Assess weather and field conditions and make decisions based on safety of all.
  • Advises manager of potential changes to policies, procedures and rules.
  • Conflict resolution and providing excellent customer service to teams, managers umpires, scorekeepers, and coaches.
  • Inspect the site to ensure participant safety.
  • Work effectively and productively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Provide positive customer support to members, guests, participants, and the public, resolving immediate concerns as best as possible with the established guidelines and framework of the facility and/or program.
  • Act quickly, calmly, and appropriately in emergency and conflict situations.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Extensive knowledge of the rules and operations of youth and adult sports programs, such as basketball, softball, volleyball and soccer.
  • Working knowledge of the methods involved in organizing, conducting, instructing, and supervising sports and recreational program.
  • Prior officiating experience preferred.
  • Exercise sound judgement in all circumstances.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with participants, parents, coaches, volunteers, subordinates and co-workers via face-to-face, telephone and e-mail.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to read instructions, observe conditions and instruct.
  • Ability to perform duties and responsibilities unsupervised.
  • Will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check; possess a valid Colorado driver’s license.
  • Schedule will include early mornings, late evenings, weekends and holidays.  Daily split shift may be required. 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High School graduate or equivalent.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Proficient in English. Other languages helpful.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Basic math skills

  • Ability to perform moderate physical work and to lift 50 pounds and to occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
