Municipal Service Worker 1

Grade: 22 Hourly Wage Range $22.09-$29.51

Under direct supervision, performs a variety of unskilled and limited semi-skilled manual labor in the construction and maintenance of roadways, water and sewer systems, drainage facilities, buildings, parks, cemeteries, and other public facilities and in refuse collection; drives truck and operates light equipment incidental to the work.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Assists in various maintenance, repair and construction work.
Assists in repair and maintenance of streets.
Patches holes.
Repairs utility cuts.
Crack seals.
Maintains drainage.
Builds and maintains parking lots.
Plows, sands, removes snow and ice.
Erects and maintains signs, barricades, bollards, and decorations.
Installs storm and sanitary sewer lines.
Locates lines; inspects and cleans sewers, manholes, and lift stations.
Maintains water storage reservoirs, dams, spill ways.
Locates and repairs water leaks.
Reads, repairs and installs water meters.
Maintains valves and valve boxes.
Installs and repairs fire hydrants.
Tests chlorine levels.
Pressure tests and taps water lines.
Plants and trims trees and shrubs.
Mows and sprays weeds.
Installs and maintains irrigation systems.
Mows grounds.
Winterizes sprinkler systems; cleans parks.
Maintains restrooms.
Constructs playground equipment.
Performs building maintenance work.
Cleans and services equipment. 

OTHER DUTIES INCLUDE: Assists other departments; performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Some knowledge of maintenance of public roads, utility systems and facilities.
Ability to demonstrate and perform a variety of semi-skilled and some skilled tasks in the repair and maintenance of various types of structures, facilities and equipment.
Ability to learn the operation and maintenance of trucks and light equipment safely.
Ability to talk and hear in person and by radio; ability to see, read and write instructions and basic blueprints; prepare reports and make repairs.
Ability to get along well with other workers, supervisors and public.
Possess a valid Colorado Class B Commercial Driver’s License.
Possess both valid Colorado Class 1 Collection and Distribution Certifications or able to obtain within first 24 months of employment.
Will be required to successfully pass a pre-employment drug test and background check.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Any combination of training and experience equivalent to graduation of high school with some experience as a laborer.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Proficient in English. Other languages helpful.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Basic math skills.

Ability to perform moderate/heavy physical work and to lift and carry 75 pounds regularly and 100 pounds occasionally.

Possess hand/eye/foot coordination to operate equipment.
